Trend Watch: Four Bathroom Fads to Watch Out For

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

Bathrooms and kitchens are high on the list for buyers. They want to find something that fits their tastes and is functional. Fads are continually changing and these are on the way out! If your bathroom has these fading trends, you may want to consider updating before putting your home on the market.shutterstock_879071861. All-white bathrooms have been a trend for awhile now. They look beautiful in pictures and even in-person for the first month…then the stains come and the white is hard to keep up in real life. It’s time to add some color with an accent wall or accent décor to make it easier on your life and cleaning bill.

2. When starting to add color to your bathroom, don’t go overboard! Some colors to watch out for are salmon, avocado and mustard. These colors are hard to integrate and can take over a space. Use the 70/20/10 rule for a perfectly balanced look. 70% will be a muted or neutral color for the walls, floor or tile, 20% should be a rich, contrasting color and the last 10% should be an accent color. This will give your space a cohesive look.

3. Big bathtubs are being traded in for big showers. The age of standalone huge tubs in bathrooms is ending. Having a bathtub/shower combo in one bathroom of the house is still important, but the elaborate oversized fixture is not needed anymore.

4. Vessel sinks might just sink you. They are hard to clean and take care of and look outdated. Under mount sinks are still the staple and have been timeless over the years.

Your bathroom should always reflect who you are, but resale value is important! When getting ready to sell your home, take a step back and take a hard look at your style. Is it universal or will the next owners need to spend a good amount of money and time fixing it up? This can cause potential buyers to back out of deals if the project is too overwhelming.
